This breathtaking waterfall paradise is located about 25 minutes south of Liberia just off of highway 1. It’s a great family-friendly destination to stop by and have a picnic as you’re heading between the Central Valley Mountains and the Northern Guanacaste Coast.
Once you arrive, you’ll have access to a gravel parking lot with public restrooms, changing rooms, and showers. Before you walk down to the falls, you can visit the local vendors set up by the parking area for nice authentic souvenir to remember the trip. Then you can take the steep but manageable steps down about 100 meters to a short bridge and beach surrounding the stunning Llanos de Cortés Waterfall.
Once you arrive, you can hang out enjoy the waterfall’s majesty while you have a picnic with family. If the conditions are right for it you can also go for a swim to cool off. There is a trail on the left hand side of the falls that will take you to the top, then from there you can take a second trail that leads to a small natural pool where you can jump in from the surrounding rocks. The falls also have some freelance local guides who can take you on the trails and help you to find some cool wildlife such as owls, bats and monkeys.
