This short waterfall hike is located just 15 minutes south of the town of Guacimo, which is right along route 32 between La Fortuna and the Caribbean Coast, so you can consider this as a half way point activity. It is a great beginner hike through the forest, with beautiful nature views and a refreshing waterfall swim at the end.
The hike is located on a small local farm property owned by a friendly tico family. From the parking lot, you can take a nice 1 kilometer, around 20 minutes walk, path through the forest, where you can take your time and look out for wildlife such as monkeys and birds. You’ll travel over a hanging bridge and along some ups and downs until you reach the stunning Golondrinas Waterfall. This is a nice open area to have a picnic or go for a refreshing swim in the natural pools.
After the hike, you can stop by the local restaurant on the property for a delicious, wood-fired typical Costa Rican lunch. They also have access to showers, so you can wash off any mud from the trip before heading on to your next location.
