As its name suggests, this campsite is truly an oasis located right in the middle of the Nicoya Peninsula. It’s right off of Route 18 after passing the “Puente de Amistad // Bridge of Friendship” when traveling from central Costa Rica towards the Guanacaste region. It’s in a nice central location to stop on the way towards the Pacific Coast, just 1.5 hours from the north beaches of the peninsula such as Tamarindo, Hermosa and Iguanita, and 2.5 hours from the south beaches of Santa Teresa and Montezuma.
The campground is located on an old cattle farm, and the moment you enter you will feel like you are part of an old fashioned Costa Rican farm estate. The property has a large flat camping area covered in white stones with plenty of room to set up your tent wherever you like. You’ll be surrounded by trees characteristic of the dry forest and with a small creek flowing nearby. The facilities are in pristine shape and you’ll have plenty of privacy for a peaceful night of camping.
The owners, Alberto and Carmen, are known for their hospitality and will be happy to share some of their homegrown fruit with you or recommend the best restaurants in the area. They have a second home in New Jersey that they sometimes visit, but even if they’re away you’re still welcome to stay there and will be welcomed by Luis, who will help you out with anything that you need during your stay.
This place is very private and isolated from busy towns and tourist areas. The town of Nicoya, located about 20 minutes to the east, is a nice authentic place to stock up on locally harvested products or grab a bit to eat at the small local restaurants known as “sodas”.
