This campsite is located on an arrow shaped peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Arenal right outside the town of Tronadora. It is at the half-way point along a scenic lake drive between the towns of La Fortuna and Monteverde, so it’s a nice place to stop when traveling between the towns. This is the perfect lake-side location to camp if you want to participate in activities such as swimming, kayaking and fishing.
The large property allows for freedom to camp right off the lake shore or farther back under the forest trees, which provide shade and cover in the case of rain. The area is isolated from any outside noises or disturbances (except for the howler monkeys – you will learn they make a better alarm clock than a rooster!) The common areas are always well maintained, and there are grills and faucets available throughout the campsite.
This campsite is about 3 km from the center of Tronadora in case you want to stop for a bite to eat or pick up groceries. It’s also about an hours drive away from the Cerro Pelado hike, a beautiful scenic trail about 6 km long perfect for hiking enthusiasts, and just an hour from the town of Liberia, so it’s convenient if you have a flight coming in or out of the airport there.
The owner, Silvia, does not speak much English, but will always find a way to communicate and help you out with anything you need. She lives right a the entrance of the campsite, which is kept gated after hours, so it’s important to let her know if you plan to arrive after 5:00 pm and she will make sure the gate is open for you.
