This campsite is located just 800 meters off of route 36, about 20 minutes up the coast from Cahuita. It is a secluded beachfront camping spot away from tourist hotspots like Puerto Viejo, Cahuita and Punta Uva, so it’s a great place to stop for a peaceful night of sleep before making your way to the famous beach towns to the south.
You’ll have access to park directly on the beach and decide if you want to camp under a shelter, next to the coconut trees, or even stay in a small tipi if you want to skip setting up the tent. They have access to nice amenities including a well stocked kitchen, clean restrooms and showers, and a wood fired pizza oven. Although the tide is strong and not ideal for swimming, the wide sandy beach offers opportunities for long beach walks and spectacular sunrises over the sea.
The owner, Barbara, and her team, Jordan, Enyelin, Felipe, & Lester, will be more than willing to assist you with anything you need. They make sure that the campsite is well maintained and safe, and can give you access to basic tools such as wood and fire starters in case you want to use the pizza oven.
Once you arrive at the campsite, you can organize a paddle boarding tour with Jordan, Lester, or Felipe for the following morning. They will take you out on the “Valle de la Estrella” river located right next to the campsite, which leads into the sea and back to the front of the campsite. You’ll have the chance to spot several species of sea birds on the trip, and in the middle of the ride they crack open some coconuts for a refreshment. The experience takes about 2 hours and is a delightful way to spend the morning before hanging out on the beach.
