Located just 10km east of the Turrialba town, this campsite is a great half-way spot to stay when heading from the South Pacific Coast or South-Central Highlands towards the Carribean Coast. It’s a pleasant mountain spot for a brisk night of sleep and spectacular views of the Turrialba Volcano.
The camping area is located on a large open grassy area surrounded by trees with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The owner, Emilio, will welcome you to his humble property and show you the grounds and facilities. He offers designated spots for bonfires in the case of a chilly night, although you’ll need to bring your own firewood or find some on the surrounding property.
This is a great place to disconnect and just enjoy being surrounded by nature and mountain views. There is a large building on the property with a restaurant, so you can stop by to get a meal or coffee, work remotely out of the rain, or just relax and enjoy the view of the Turrialba town and the lowlands.
The Turrialba National Park is an hour and a half drive to the north and has access to stunning hiking trails and a ~4km hike to the crater of the Turrialba volcano. You can also take the very popular driving route known as “Dos Volcanes // Two Volcanoes”, which goes by both the Turrialba and Irazú Volcanos, so you can experience two volcano views in just one day.
