Finca Tres Equis is a large farm property located between the South-Central Highlands and the Caribbean Coast. It’s a beautiful, family-friendly place to stay when traveling between the coasts on route 10, with access to many activities including hiking, horseback riding, and rafting on the Pacuare River.
Finca Tres Equis used to be a large cattle estate known all over Costa Rica for breeding the strongest bulls in the country. Even today, it keeps some of its herd, and sponsors the national annual celebration known as “Toros de Zapote”, a high-adrenaline event where a bull chases around a group of people in an arena (kind of like a fun and harmless “tico” version of bullfighting).
The farm has been converted into a vast recreational campground, with camping spots all around the property where you can enjoy a quiet night surrounded by nature. There is even the option to set up camp right on the shore of the Pacuare river for a peaceful running-water background noise by your side. The campsite has all the proper amenities, including small shelters, showers, and restrooms, and you can collect wood along the property to make a small bonfire.
The large property is full of trails, so you can explore the farm and nearby forests for animals and nature views, and can schedule a hiking or horseback tour with the hosts. You can also coordinate a rafting tour on the Pacuare river, where you will get picked up directly from the river shore on the property. The Pacuare river is known worldwide as one of the best rivers for recreational class 3-4 rafting due to its pristine water along intense rapids and rain forest canyons.
