Located about 1.5 hours south of San José in the district of San Pablo de León Cortés, Finca Las Mercedes is an authentic family coffee farm in the mountains of Tarrazú. This private mountain farm is the #1 spot to visit if you’re looking to participate in a personalized coffee tour in one of the best coffee growing regions in the country.
This generational farm has a rich history, with a 120 year-old structure that served as one of the headquarters locations during 1948 Costa Rican civil war. As you participate in a tour of the property, you will not only learn about the artisanal methods that the family uses to produce the highest quality coffee, but you will also be immersed in the rich political history of Costa Rica.
Their base rate of $25/person will include a full tour of the property, a demonstration of the entire coffee production process, and a coffee tasting. Then, for an additional $10/person they will provide a delicious traditional breakfast after the tour, made with produce and coffee grown directly on the farm.
We recommend that you spend the night at their casona/cottage or camp on the property to truly experience an authentic cultural getaway in the mountains. In addition to the coffee farm, the property has access to a horse stable, a coffee shop, and nice green natural space so you can relax and enjoy the cool Costa Rican mountain weather.
