This campsite is located in the northern region of the country, about 1.5 hours north of La Fortuna. It’s conveniently located just 1.5km and 4 minutes driving from the main entrance of the Tenorio National Park, famous for its forest trails that go along the crystal blue Rio Celeste river. It’s a great place to camp if you want to experience a unique volcanic hiking experience.
You’ll set up camp on a private hilltop property with an outstanding view of the Northern Lowlands. On a clear day, you’ll be able to see all the way down the volcano range to the south, with views of the Arenal Volcano and the Cerro Chaco.
The owner, Elias, is a friendly local “Tico” who is enthusiastic about his property and the wildlife of the Tenorio National Park. He is always willing to share his knowledge about the park and show you how to access a hidden, light-blue natural pool near the property.
Tenorio National Park is best known for the Rio Celeste river, which has a crystal light blue color due to the calcium carbonate, sulfur, and other volcanic minerals in the area. The campsite is close enough that you can walk directly to the park entrance and spend the day exploring along the river shore and visiting the boiling mud pools, natural hot springs, and the pristine Celeste waterfall.
