This quiet hilltop property is located right in the middle of the central highlands, about an hour east of San José and just 5-10 minutes from the entrance of the Irazú Volcano National Park. It’s the perfect place to stay for a cool night of mountain camping if you’re traveling between the South Pacific and the Caribbean coasts.
The campsite has big open spaces where you can set up camp with a large group of family or friends. You’ll be surrounded by the hills and feel completely isolated from the outside world with a chance for a breathtaking view of the stars on a clear night. They have firewood for sale and designated areas for bonfires to help warm you up during the cold nights. There are shelters and common areas with proper restrooms and showers that are always well maintained by the staff.
There is a short trail on the property that you can visit directly from the camping spot. You’re also conveniently located just 3.5 km from the entrance of the Irazú National Park Sector Prusia, which has a wonderful wide network of beautiful hiking trails through the forest.
The Irazú Volcano region can be underestimated compared to the more popular and touristy volcanoes such as Poas and Arenal. It is a beautiful area with a unique high-altitude climate above the cloud forest where you you will find “Paramos”, which are part of a treeless alpine ecosystem about 3000 meters above sea level. Here you will find some of the most scenic roads in the country as you drive through the highland range, with views of the cities of Cartago and San José along with the Central Sierra and Talamanca highlands.
