Located about 1.5 hours southeast of San José and tucked within the mountains of the Southern Highlands, this is a small, locally owned family place perfect for a night of preparation before heading south along the coast or exploring the highlands of Talamanca. It is located high up on Costa Rica’s tallest mountain range, “Cerro de la Muerte” – be ready for a cold night in the Cloud Forest!

The campsite is located at the top of a hill in a big private outdoor area surrounded by forest, with nice cool weather from the breeze coming in from the South Pacific. You will have access to an easy hike along the edge of a nearby creek, and can enjoy a cold morning shower in any of their 2 hidden waterfalls located on an easy 10-minute hike from the campsite.

This is a perfect place to enjoy a nice family vacation, as children can safely enjoy an assortment of outdoor games and activities. You will also have the option to eat at the owner’s restaurant, which serves delicious local dishes, and participate in trout fishing on their well stocked trout lakes.

The close by towns of Santa María de Dota and San Marcos are small agriculture towns hidden in the hills and known for their delicious local coffee. These are definitely worth a visit if you want to stock up for your trip or are looking for a quaint coffee stop.
